Week of March 25-29

Monday

We are having math menu this is Lucas doing a problem solver.

In math today we had to make an addition problem and make it easier by using what we know.

We got a new student! His name is Chad he came from Edmunds elementary school in Burlington.

We are doing a science lab. This is the sand group testing some sand.

Here are the summary's that the groups used for the beginning middle and end.

Tuesday

We gave strategies that we used for a broken calculator problem.

This is Tuesday's J.A.M (Just a Minute) where we make up our own dance moves this is Lucas's dance move.

We had read aloud we are still reading The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate.

This is a picture of some ice covered in sawdust from our science lab.

Wednesday.

We shared our subtraction strategies for subtraction in math today.

We had Guidance today where we have to make up our own bumpy and smooth problems.

We are doing our J.A.M(just a minute) were we have to do squats.

Thursday

This is Thursday's P.O.D(problem of the day)

We had k-buddy time in the computer lab. We got to type stories with them using a cool site called Storybird.

We posted our glogs on edmodo, our Skype pals will give us feedback about them.

We learned more about our friends from New Jersey by watching and listening to their Vokis.

We had E.L.F this is the puppet show. We learned more about trees and twigs.

This is J.p is posing as a twig.

Friday

We had classroom cáfe.

We are doing are end of unit assement for science about matter where we are trying to help the road crew melt ice of the road to keep the road safe with 3 options of sand, salt, or ice. Do you have a prediction on which will work best?

We mailed our persuasive letters to the local reps for Jericho.

We had our last day of open gym.

Happy Easter,

Gabe and Skyler

P.S stuff yourself with chocolate this Easter.

Week of 3/18/13

On Tuesday we played a game that involves addition.

We did a jam with clapping, patting, and snapping.

On Wednesday we did a jam where we have to copy Mrs. Randall.

We had guidance on Wednesday. In guidance we learned about how to not let people change your mood. We also did little skits on how to get on the good side of someone who is annoying you.

We skyped a class in New Jersey who explained to us what a voki is. You can find out at www.voki.com.

We went to the Echo center on Thursday! We had to get ready. We are working on cursive while we wait for the bus.

Here we are at the Echo center. We learned that there are about 6.8 trillion gallons in lake Champlain.

We learned about the properties of solids, liquids, and gases.

Here we are, trying to figure out if hot or cold water is more dense than the other.

We found out that cold water is more dense.

Here, Jackson, JP, and Kieley are pretending to be water molecules.

We see what happens when we put sand in a beaker and swirl the beaker around. We also did this with rocks.

The sand lifted up a little bit and the rocks shifted around a little bit.

We also see what happens when we contaminate the water. Our group used "cow urine". The "cow urine" dissolved and made the water yellow.

We put fake animals in a model of lake Champlain. We learned about contaminating the water and how it affects the animals.

We learned about what would happen if there was a storm on contaminated water.

These ball bearings represent the atoms in metal.

We saw how big a moose skull is.

We dissected owl pellets.

Now that we finished our cool field trip, we are doing a self reflection.

We hope you have a great weekend! Lucas

ECHO Science Center Fun! Thursday March 21, 2013

Exploring properties of water! Is cold water more dense than hot water? We tested it out!

Did you know that water is a universal solvent?

We created a habitat and told a story about water pollution. The rain took the pollutants into the lake!

Week of March 3-11-13/3-15-13

Monday

We had author's chair. This is one author ( Abe ) who is sharing one of his stories.

We started a new read aloud book called The One And Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. It is a very good book so far. Sam D. Is our "discussion director" and Jackson is our "vocab enricher".

Tuesday

We did our JAM we had to do the chicken dance, we also get the JAM results for February. ( JAM stands for Just A Minute, it's were we do a fun aerobic exercise for a minute.)

We are doing a science investigation with Mr. Bouchard and Mrs. Randall, where we have cotton, sand, sawdust, and newspaper to keep the ice cold.

Wednesday

This is Wednesday's P.O.D problem of the day. Most of our class chose a strategy called guess, check, think, and revise. We all persevered and shared our math thinking!

For share Lucas brought in his pugs named Saphira, Misa.

This is Lucas and his pug, Misa. Misa is a one year old pug. ( according to Lucas )

Abe shared his old school's home page.

This is Lucas,Jackson, and Jordan b. presenting their item's for the challenge " City of A to The city of B " But this very year every one in the whole school lived!!!!

This is Sadie's " I say they, They say, I say backs." We are working on creating a strong argument! Practicing on Icivics has helped us understand each step in finding clear evidence to support our claim.
Thursday:

Malina shared a slideshow from when she went to St. John, This is a picture of boats on the harbor.

When we had art today, Mr VanAllen asked us to make four silhouettes of an animal or a land scape.

In math intervention, we work at our own level and at our own pace. Some students are working on Khan Academy, trying out a problem solver or playing a fun math game called Numeracy.

Jackson is planning a trip across the United States using a mileage calculator. If he goes on that trip I'm going with him!!!!!!!!!!

This is Maliek watching a video on khan Academy, to learn a new skill. Khan Academy is a helpful math program that teaches new skills, and helps you master them in a fun way.

We made a 10,000's chart, it is very big. To split up the work we gave each 'family' a thousands group.

We are writing Letter's to third graders on how know how many 10's are in 1,000.

We are doing Thursday's J.A.M, called Raise the Flag where we act as if we're raising a flag and so on.

Mrs. Randall is reading us a book called Show Me the Money by Alvin Hall. It's about economics and money explanation.

This is a packet of Show Me The Money. Over the next few days we will mark up the text and earn the knowledge of economics.

Our experiment shows that newspaper and sawdust was the best insulation.

Friday:

We Went To The State House!!!

This is the beautiful battle of Cedar Creek room. We met with our local representatives. This is Mr. George Till. Can you find a split rock and a cannon ball?

This is the state house. The statue on top is named Agricutlure, for Vermonts farming business.

This is Taylor holding a REAL grey fox fur.

This is a fake Samuel Adams hanging in a chair from a tavern's sign. Samuel Adams was seen as a traitor to the green mountain boys, because he thought that we could peacefully settle our differences.

This is supposed to be an old time general store.

When logging was the prime industry in Vermont the loggers went to far and cut down almost all the trees in Montpelier.

This is a Vermont civil war soldiers trunk. Notice the soldiers trunk houses musical instruments, the soldier was one of the many civil war musicians. Although he was in the civil war ( most soldiers died in the war ) he died of a fatal disease.

This is a civil war medic's pouch.

This is a morse code machine, the bottom is the receiver, the top is the message sender.

This is the American morse code alphabet .

This is a unsuspecting photographer (Malina) taking a picture of a farmers ribbon and pocket watch award.

Happy Monday!
