Week of October 21

In math today we made connections between multiplication and division. Did you know you use multiplication to solve division? Here are some students using visual models to show their math thinking.

This morning we had a special class celebration in honor of Abbey! She finished Fastt Math! We had a dance party and Mrs. Randall danced on her desk!

We Skyped our friends in California to discuss the read aloud book our classes are reading. Our discussion director and vocab enriched led the discussion.

We are making our own Vermont maps to study from! Today we located 3 states that border us and one country!

We each chose the topic for our reading letters. Then we found evidence from the text to back up our statement. We are learning more about different ways to organize our thoughts as writers. Organization is one of the six traits of writing!

Ryan sprang his ankle but people helped him get stuff he couldn't get and get stuff done.

Mrs. Adams got us pumpkins for Halloween! We will be doing pumpkin activities next week!

This is our narrative writing checklist.

Sending good thoughts to Nolan and Justin on their hockey games this weekend! They play for the blue and white Essex Sting. They are playing So. Burlington and BAHA. Good luck boys!!!

Check out the score in Typing Club! We are improving on our keyboarding skills! Remind us of the home keys! After, we used these skills to type our narratives.
In ELF this week we learned more about leaves. We each studied our own leaf and then used characteristics to find it in a big pile.
Emma sat in the authors chair and shared her stuff from Disney and pictures of dogs.
These animals need help! Would you hug or help? Ask us about articles in our news magazine!
Be aware that Mrs. Randall will be posting some pictures from her trip to Washington, DC this weekend! She is running the Marine Corps Marathon!

Thank you for reading our blog! Please leave comments below!

Mt. Philo and NECAPs....oh my!

We are working on being quiet and smooth transitions. We are really trying!

We are getting closer to being respectful and responsible to others during pick up at the end of the day.

Mr.Randall is telling us to pick up after ourselves. We are working on showing respect to property by putting items back where we found them.

We are dancing to a fun song during our jam! Abbey is this week's jam master.

We are going on a trip to mt. Philo! It is going to be fun. We are using encouraging words to support each other and make sure everyone in fourth grade feels like they belong.

We have a new math menu. We created it on Friday last week after we wrote reflections in our math journal about our growth as mathematicians. We added some practice items to the next menu so we can stay focused on our math goals.

These are two of our problem solvers.
We completed our art project!! Thank you to Mrs. Adams for helping make our Author's Chair, stool, and listening center look great!

This is the hike of Mt. Philo. Check out the video we made in our earlier post.

We are all working together to reach the top.

We found some butternuts in the bushes.

We all belong with each other like we are a family that we stick together as we belong here even if we are diffent then each other but we have diffent this that we like and not like we have diffent friends we like and not like but we have diffent things that we like.

This is our read aloud book!
This is Madison's me bag.
We are reading out of my mind it is about a girl that can not talk and not walk and she has a sister and a pet name Butterscotch. Some of her friends can not walk and talk too but she has a friend that can know what she say I think that is nice to know that but she thinks people know that she has the same thing as them and I think at the end of the book that some kids do not make fun of her like she I different then them.

Today we are seeing our k- buddies we are happy to see them today we have smiles on our faces. Together we used our five sentences to notice and name them in nature.

Mrs. Randall did a book jacket prompt today! We noticed the front cover, then wrote a quick write. After, we lifted our favorite line to share. We then thought about possibly taking that line and using it as our lead.
We like our k-buddies.

We are practicing packs and groups in guidance class.

We are happy that we are done with NECAPs. We are very happy!

See you on Monday!

Week of October 7th

Did you know that Earth's tilt is the cause of why we have seasons? We watched a Bill Nye video and learned how to make a diagram in our science notebook to share our knowledge with others. After we worked in small groups to use our new knowledge about Earth's seasons and day and night, to present a model to teach kindergarteners!

We put the big job (independent research projects) on hold because we can't use our sites to research right now.

We are writing our thoughts about the text, Out of my mind. We organized our thoughts in our notebook so we can post on Edmodo and communicate with our friends in California and Wisconsin!
As a guest reader Nolan read our read aloud book for all of us. Good job Nolan!

Great writing with lots of effort and time when we were responding to our text.

Great sharing with the class and friends during author's chair. The picture below shows a student's thinking.

Smart math work

New math games

We are figuring out the groups and packs in guidance so we can take responsibility for our actions and stay smooth.

We completed our NECAPs for reading and we thought it was easy! Math will be next week.

As a class we are working on smooth transitions and listening with attention!

Fun jams sweet! We did a jam from another school!

This is a picture of a students math thinking. They used the strategy of organizing data in a table and noticed patterns to solve the problem.

This sheet helps the class photographer and roving reporter stay organized.

Have a fun weekend!
