Week of November 16

We are working on getting rid of 4th grade problems. This is the chart that helps us realize what we are doing. Then we wrote on a post-it, why we need to stay out of fights, be better in school, and keep on the smooth road. This is our way to stop fourth grade problems. This chart is to stay on the smooth road. S.T.E.P is the chart name S-Stands for say the problems,T stands for think of solutions, E stands for explore consequences, and P stands for pick the best solutions.

We watched a video to learn how to stop fourth grade problems. It helps us learn what to do when we are feeling stressed.

This is our chart of notes to help us know what to do, and everyone wrote on a post-it of what 4th grade problems can impact on.

These are our typical fourth grade problems. We are using our strategies to identify the problem without blame.

Today was Abbey's birthday. We celebrated with Popsicles, as our snack treat. They were good!

Today was hat day, we reached our school goal 100,000 positive behaviors. Hat day was our school celebration.

This is Avirie and Madison's google docs work. We are working on a Grown-up Rule from the book The Secret Knowledge of Grown-ups.
During math our focus question is: What is the effect on the product when a factor is doubled or halved?

Nolan and Mrs. Randall are talking about how the focus question works.

On Wednesday we took a practice science NECAP about pulling sleds. They are practices for the real science NECAPS.

Caitlyn was sharing bracelets that she made this weekend, and asking if anyone wanted one, because she could give you one.

Nicholas was giving a book talk about Runny Babbitt by Shel Silverstein.
On Wednesday we watched Toy story 3. We reached our goal of 594 positive behaviors. A couple of weeks ago Mrs. Randall used the first scene to teach us about perspective. We were excited to watch the full movie!

Today was Kate's last day at Jericho Elementary School. She will be moving to Minneapolis, Minasota. Bye, Kate!!!

Today we had ELF with Lupe and Don which is Sydney's mom and Abbey's dad.

On Thursday we mystery Skyped a 4th grade class from Texas. We learned more about Texas by the kids in Texas. We taught about Vermont!

This is our guest teacher Mr.Mindell. He has also subed in for physical education.

Mrs.Randall was dancing on Olivia's desk because Olivia finished multiplication on fast math.

Caitlyn and Olivia are acting about Q+C+C2=:) Madison and Julia are also acting for guidance.

Nate was sharing his me bag, which is a bag that describes who you are and what you do.

We took quiet time to write in our writer's notebook on the topic, gratitude. What are you greatful for? Comment below!

Week of November 11

We have been working on getting deeper with our reading responses on our sticky notes. We're asking questions to help better understand the books we're reading!

We made some doc's on google doc's to help better understand the books we are reading.
Mrs.Randall read about Ruby Bridges. Together we made an anchor chart to house what learned while reading and Mrs. Randall shared her thinking. We each had our own organizer to house our questions.
This is a shot of one slide from math block. We practiced using what we know and a second strategy to check for accuracy.
Ask your family the focus question.

How can understanding the multiples of 10 help you solve double digit equations?

We finished Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Daper on Tuesday the 12, 2013 November. After, we voted on our next book. Abbey and Nolan will be creating our class bookmark to add to our bin of bookmarks that have been made after each read aloud text.

We have been working hard on our math work! 1+1= awesome class!

9x3=27! Example:

Working on our math skills is a demand, so we can be efficient with our math.

We have been reading the secret knowledge of grow ups! SSSHHH!!!!!

We had a sub teacher, Mrs. Cole, for a couple hours on Wednesday the 13th. Mrs. Randall went to visit another school and then came back.

Kayla shared her me–bag with us on Wednesday the 13th! She is our student of the week.

Our new read aloud book is The Secret Order of the Gumm Street Girls by Elise Primavera.

In math we learned that 14x12 has the same answer to 28x6 even if 14 is half of 28 and 12 is double of 6.Try doing this with any number

Our Second Step unit is helping us with ways to calm down....
