Week of December 16

As readers we are focused on how a specific comprehension strategy, inferring, helps us better understand the text. This is a game called Inference! It is a lot of fun! We are also reading a non-fiction article on the Titanic.

For word work this week, we are reviewing previous patterns.
We love audio books!
These students are showing respect for self and others as they read independently. We are working on staying focused on our job and not disturbing the learning of others.
These are questions we use to help ourselves and to guide others as support crew.
This is a picture of one of our support crew members helping during pod.
Some students presented their robots from the challenge.
This is a picture of a student presenting their creation from hour of code. We are using a fun section in Khan Academy.
Do you know what attributes are? What are some properties of quadrilaterals you would use to describe them to a buddy playing guess my rule?
We are reviewing our Second Step skills! We are practicing how to solve problems and be assertive.
This sheet we keep at home. We cut out each strategy and practice one specific skill each day. We are discussing our progress with our family each evening.
Do you know what these are? We watched a video as part of our Wondering Wednesday! Fire ants and properties of matter...cool!
Wondering Wednesday!! We are learning what a testable question is and then together, we created one! We have many wondering questions in our science notebooks for future inquiry investigations! Every time we have a new question, we add it!
Our math focus has been geometry! We love playing with power polygons!
These researchers shared how they programmed this robot!
We are loving our read aloud text!! It's all about friendship and is connected to the Wizzard of Oz!
We are coding! Persevering while problem solving is important!
One of our math menu items is to review factors and multiples while creating arrays.
Creating new polygons with power polygons.
This is a creation someone made on a fun geometry site Mrs. Randall added to our math menu!
Our element cubes are hanging! We love to read them and get some good book recommendations!

This is Nolan's work about being embarrassed, jealous, and scared. We are working on working through strong emotions.

We did a test on summative knowledge assessment there were questions about second step.

Today in math we watched a video clip of a song about polygons! The video was called just a square.

Today we worked with our k buddies on a app called my story. We had fun with our k buddies. At the end we had hot chocolate.

Mr.lane talked about the annoying scale and compassion scale he was seeing what we where on the annoying scale and the compassion scale. Today we played home made cherades.

Today we made our Christmas ornaments this is Emma's Christmas ornement. Make sure they put them on the tree. We attached a piece of sting and our self portraits and said merry Christmas 2013-2014 is what Emma's says.

Today we did our science presentations this is abbey's work on the presentation. Her research question was how does oceans have bigger waves than lakes? The answer was because of the moons pull of gravity.

This is Sydney's presentation her research question is how many moons does Saturn has and Saturn has 18 moons the biggest moon is Titan. Her favorite two is Titan and phoebe she likes Titan because of its color and she likes phoebe because of its strange shape.

We are writing about unstoppable moments. This is Nolan's piece. We are telling one time we never gave up.

In math we were measuring the class room. We measured the length, width and the perimeter. It was very challenging but we worked through it. This is the blue print of the classroom.

We are continuing math menu. This is Kayla's math menu. We are working through our problem solvers. Also our window panes are challenging.

We are picking our science question and researching it. Then we are going to present it.

This week we are finally putting together our element cube. The cube has the title of our book and vocabulary and more interesting things. We are finishing our book so we can make the cube.

We shared our unstoppable piece with a friend and got some feedback about our piece.

In math we are measuring 100 feet. This is going to be very challenging. Fourth graders can

do it even though it is going to be tough. We are practicing the habit of mind, perseverance!

We are using measuring tools to help us measure.

Tracey Camble Pearson came to our school and told us about writing a book. She has written 35 books.

Mr. Lane is teaching us annoying scale and compassion scale. He is telling us how he was when he was a child.

Kate joined us! We invited her into a Google Hangout! They told us all about her town. We asked a lot of questions. She hs a lot of cool things in her town.

During reading we are working on our element cubes with our just right text. We are finding evidence from the that as we analyze the main character.

This year our helper teacher is Mrs. Mccuin.

During math we started a new unit , which is geometry,

We are looking at different ways we can measure things

For social studies we looked at our geography of the green mountain states test and listed what we need to work on.

Also we slit up into groups and played a Vermont geographic game!

Today for Math are focus question was how can benchmarks help us estimate length accurately . We measured Mrs. Randall's height.

Also we did some measuring and persevered in our math work.

For second step we learned how to solve problems and reviewed our lesson STEP.

Also today in calm we are learning about Germany and learned about the 3B's and we did some games from Germany.

Julia is the student of the week so she shared her me bag

During reading Bella and Nolan both had a goal to read to page 100 and 105 and they both went past their goal, also Abbey found a really strong sentence "sunburn on my heart".

Mrs. Randall read a book called Happy Endings. It is all about suffixes, we listed all of suffixes that were in the book. Word study groups are focusing on adding suffixes to base words.

When we were in the computer lab we revised our secret knowledge of parents piece, this is our working progress that we put on the board.

This is our finish progress

At the end of the day we went to the computer lab and did a Vermont puzzle which was a web scavenger hunt!

Today was our last review of S.T.E.P . Also we did a paper which was called Solving Playground problems

If you don't know S.T.E.P this is what it means!

During reading we got our Weekly Reader with news articles and we worked on thinking stems to house our deep questions.

When we were at the computer lab we typed our letter to self (My Unstoppable Tips).

Today for math we were working on perimeters and perimeter problems

This is Mrs. Randall's presentation of perimeters

Today Mr. Lane came in and we did an activity and we learned about joining in on second step.

During the starting of reading we glued in problem solving steps and the checklist for solving a problem, also we wrote how to make a plan in our writers notebook .

Also Taylor , jack , Nolan and Justin collected the 39 clue cards

For math we started off with a math page to get our brain warmed up! We reviewed what to do with remainders in division.

Jack made this poster to remind us of our weekly PAWS goal! We keep our posters on our class door to remind us how to show respect to self, others and property.

JJ
Math presentation-some of us presented our math work. Each team of two presented their mathquestion about measurement.
In our. POD, we practiced solving math problems using the working backwards strategy.
Working on a Vermont puzzle!
Practicing the reading strategy of inferring by playing a game.
Word work during reader's workshop. This student is doing a word sort.
Have a good weekend!
