Geocaching Fun!

If you want to go Geocaching you can get an app for your tablet or phone. This app is meant for an iPhone so you have to look for it as an iPhone app in the App Store. It will still work on your tablet but, it's meant for an iPhone. You can even use it off-line. Look for it and have fun Geocaching.

Week of September 14, 2015

We are learning more about Vermont's physical features!
We continued to explore Vermont's counties and what specific features impact that area.

Once a week we test our multiplication fluency. After we graph our scores to notice improvement and celebrate!

We took a closer look at multiples and factors. We played a game called multiple turn over. Ask us about it!

We are buddy checking! We have specific questions we ask each other to help us work carefully.

Our Second Step focus for the week is listen with attention. There are 4 parts to listen respectfully to let the speaker know we care. Let us show you!

We did some role playing in class to practice listening.

Math warm up! This is one way we warm up our brain for math block. We love Bedtime Math challenges!

In writer's workshop we are focusing on how fiction writers think about the plot of their story. We tried out how to use story arcs to think about the plot of our story.

Finding a comfortable spot to write in my notebook.

Thinking about our character helps us create a believable protagonist with internal and external features!

This is one of our mentor text for reading and writing. We are noticing how the author's craft focuses on building background knowledge so we better understand the main character.

In our own text, we are reading intensely to grow ideas! Look at how we use post it notes to track our thinking!

We buzz with our reading partner.

This is one of our anchor charts.

In math menu we are using some fun iPad apps like math duel!

We are using models to hold our thinking as we problem solve.

Adding marvelous math to our class board!

Check out this work!

Sharing math strategies

We joined Edmodo! Ask us to show you our online discussion board!

Fun news!

Mrs. Randall was student of the week! Next week Anna V. will be student of the week! Don't forget to bring in your "me bag"!

First time geocaching

Ask us about our digital version of Scholastic News!

We participated in a mystery Skype! We figured out they are in New Jersey! We will collaborate with them throughout the year!

Happy Friday!

Week of September 8, 2015

We exceeded our PAWS goal last week, so we celebrated with tech time! This week we are working on smooth transitions.

Yesteday we went on a scavenger hunt to find specific features on a Vermont map with all of the counties, rivers and lakes.

We played a fun game using the iPads as part of Mrs. Randall's reading lesson. We used the app, Nearpod.

We worked in pairs to better understand how readers learn more about characters.

Mrs. Stone was student of the week! She shared her "me" bag so we could learn more about her!

In writer's workshop, we are learning about different ways writers get their ideas for fiction writing. Some writers use observations in their daily life, ask "what books do I wish existed in the world?", or think about an important issue to you and how your character might struggle with it.

We write in our writer's notebook. We collect many story ideas!

This is JK Rowling's plan for her fifth Harry Potter book! We learned different ways writers plan their stories.

In math we took a closer look at how we used strategies to better understand a math story problem. Then we gave each other feedback and added what we do well as a mathematician to our t-chart, as well as our math goal.

https://vimeo.com/138878489. Check out this video we made!

We had fun celebrating our summer math practice by playing different math games!

We worked in family groups to complete this math challenge.

Teams worked hard!

In social studies we created maps that showed Vermont's counties and their shire towns.

Happy Friday!
