Week of January 23, 2017

Chol came in and talked to us about his immigration story from when he was a kid. We learned about what it's like to be a refugee. He can speak 4 languages and taught us how to say hello in each language! He created a website to help support other Sudanese refugees in Vermont. We are helping his foundation by collecting money and old sports equipment to donate.

We had another chess day.
We got new scholastic news and debated some of the articles.
Jason shared his current independent text called Save me A Seat.
Instead of Wondering Wednesday, we had Thinking Thursday his week!
In readers workshop, we are learning through the lens of a critical reader. We are noticing social issues hiding in the text. We are reading Kizzy Ann Stamps.
We started a fractions and decimal unit in math! It's a lot of fun!
Multicultural children's book day! We read and discussed many books that teach us more about other cultures and build empathy for others.

Week of the 17-20

We got a new student named Sophia who is having a wonderful time

Berkeley finished fast math (yeah!!!)

We had a celebration and baked chocolate chip cookie muffins (with Ben's cookbook and the help from our class)

We had a school celebration which was buddy reading. Mrs. Randall's class read with Ms. Abair's class

Cam is writing a essay on "Hats should be allowed in JES" and read his letter that he received from Mrs. Graf

Tommy shared his ME bag with us (he had a helicopter thing and flew it and almost hit Mrs. Randall in the head)

We had a Sumdog competition and our class WON!!!

Week of January 9, 2017

We took a walk around the school for our class pws piont celebration.

While doing so we picked up trash that was on the ground
This group created a science investigation
This is a slide from the reading group presentation

We had 4 winds and we investigated skulls of carnivores, herbivores, omnivorous, and insectivores

We discovered what animal the skull we were assigned to belonged to.

We tested all our different teeth and how they are used by eating certain foods


Mrs. Randall read us "The Day the Crayons Quit". We noticed voice and strong arguments.

In writing we tried to wrap up our opinion pieces with a to do list. We are independent writers!

Mrs. Randall also read us a book about refugees called "Stepping Stones". Life do a Syrian refugee is difficult.

It's important to be kind.

In reading we studied the craft, goal, and how it made us feel about our book and author.

We looked at where droughts most oftenly occur. We also learned how to be a critical reader when we research.

We got a new science book from Berkeley called "lives of the Scientists

We asked questions about our science projects and some people even experimented

Mrs. Randall's reading groups discusses "The Nature Of Matter"

In math, we compared sets of data

We shared what we learned by making a representation for our data and wrote conclusions. We thought what was most important about our data.

We played "The Ball Game" Mrs. Randall and Peter were the finalists (Mrs. Randall won)

We are learning about life as a refugee I n our read aloud book "Home of the Brave".

Week of January 2, 2017

Check out our best part of me wall! We worked with Ms. Brehm's class!
We are working on building strong arguments in writer's workshop.

We have a new student named Morgan! She is from Burlington. Welcome!

Matthew shared his me bag with us. We learned that he likes the Red Sox and his favorite animal is the sloth. We also had a dance party to celebrate his hard work on his multiplication fact fluency!

New family teams!

We are learning how to play chess. I learned that Caleb knows a lot about chess.

We have a new calming station to help us self regulate our body.

In math we are collecting data and giving surveys about something we are interested in. We are analyzing data and will report out on Monday.

In reader's workshop, we are teaching each other about natural disasters.
