Week of April 16

MONDAY-

We are on our way to Lake Iroquois for a science field trip! It is beautiful out!

We made it! It's always windy by Lake Iroquois, because it's high up.

Some middle schoolers (7th graders from CHMS) went with us on the field trip! One of them read us a book all about the life of a wood frog. We even got to hear what they sound like!

We broke up into groups and learned about different kinds of water creatures.

The 7th graders used a cool piece of technology that gave the sound of each frog we were learning about.

We went on a search where we had to track the sound of our frog.

We had a snack of egg sacks, tadpoles, and a frog! Just kidding! Really it was jello or tapioca, jellybeans, and a gummy frog. It was good!

We learned that an inch long frog can jump 17 feet! WOW!

We went to a vernal pool. A vernal pool is basically a breeding ground for amphibians like frogs and salamanders. A vernal pool is made from rainwater falling on leaves, making a pool liner.

This is an aqua scope. It makes it so you can see things that are underwater clearly.

Spotted salamander eggs!

It's a newt!

We found a bullfrog, the biggest frog in Vt! A green frog too!

Lot's of egg masses!

A diving beetle! It played dead so that we would put it back in the water!

Time to go back to school! What a fun field trip!

TUESDAY-

We started using kakooma. It's a fun math challenge Mrs. Randall found! She even bought the app for our iPad!

We saw our K buddies to help them with research on a organism. We also read a book about a frog. Their question was is water alive?

We traced our k-buddies hands and helped them organize their question about their organism.

We presented our presentations on our literature circle books.

We started to watch Justin Morgan had a horse. It is about the first Morgan horse. It takes place in the 1790's.

WEDNSDAY

Jason chin gave a presentation. We got a sneak peek of his new book Island.

We played more kakooma.

We took our multiplication and division assessment. Almost done with unit 8!

From 10:45-11:45 we went down to the library for writer's workshop. Jason chin was there!

We finished Justin Morgan had a horse.

We made a thank you card for the 7th graders. If you are reading this 7th graders, thank you!

We had elf today. It was called thorns and threats. We learned the adaptations that animals have to protect themselves and others.( or in a bees case, there honey!)

We went to the outdoor classroom and the boardwalk.

THURSDAY

We took an all school picture. We wore blue and yellow.

We got a letter from fletcher Allen hospital about the big change round up. Mrs. Randall read it to us during morning meeting.

We had visitors from the meratime museum. We talked about bartering in the 18 hundreds. We learned how important Lake Champlain was to Vermont's people. They used the lake to make money for their family.

We were ship people in the 1800's. It was fun! Also, we played during Friday the 13th we got fortune spin! The objective of this game is to get money to support our family.( and have fun!)

Feel the tension as Rich spins what we call the wheel of weather fortune. The objective of the spin is all in the luck of the spin. Can you move your boat? Or will you drop anchor?

Sofia came to class!

FRIDAY

We played 7 up

We Skyped A town. Where are they? Make it a dinner topic! Will we get to them? They won't answer!

We had a spelling test.

We had read aloud in the outdoor classroom. It was fun!
