Week of March 24th

We had a very busy week learning about fractions doing new science and creating QR codes.

Above we used geoboard paper to divide shapes into their parts. This helped us understand fractions.

Julia was busy presenting this week. She shared two book presentations for the twenty five plus book club! Way to go Julia.

We are learning about states of matter in science. This week we experimented with ice. We tried to see how quickly we could melt it.

 

Have you ever scanned a QR code? Those funny little boxes you see in magazines. These are called QR codes. This week we created our own. When you scan the code with an iPad, the code takes you to a web site.

ELF this month is about winter weeds. We went outside and discovered different kinds of weeds.

 

Mr. Lane was back for another guidance lesson. This we discussed how commercials can influence you and how you can be a wise consumer.

Week of March 17, 2014

Mrs. Randall gave a book talk for The Last Newspaper Boy in America.

We are focusing on argument writing

Jack and Justin sharing their google presentation on how to duplicate items In Minecraft. Who's is more efficient? They posted on Edmodo for us to vote!

This is Abbey's March calendar. We keep track of dates in the monthly section of our planner.

Today in health nurse Amy talked about personal hygiene.

On Tuesday in health we talked about drugs.

On Wednesday we got a new scholastic news!

We were given a hard P.O.D (Problem of the day) this morning.

We all persevered and solved the problem!!!!

We are all working on our own bill, but our class bill is: "It should be illegal to smoke in a vehicle when a child is present"

 

During health Nurse Amy tought us about tobacco and what it does to you

She brought in real frozen lungs!

This is how much smokers pay per 30 years of cigarettes

$201,600.00 dollars in 30 years!!!!!!!!!!

On Thursday we had health again we talked about diseases

And we also watched a video too

We Skyped a new school today for our Where in Vermont are you? Project. We found them in Killington, VT!

In writing work shop we went to the computer lab to begin our research on our idea. We are writing argument papers to share with our legislators!

Some of us are supporting the same bill in legislature! Nicholas and justin are discussing their research.

 

In guidance, we played a game. We thought about how we act with others.

On Friday we had a health assessment we also had a half day! We will be dismissed at 11:30. Many of us had conferences. We used our reflection sheet to share our goals, celebrations and strategies we are working on.

This is our case of words!! They have been displayed in our front office all week!

We celebrated Nicholas today! He finished Fastt Math!!!

Week of March 10, 2014


On Monday we had word study and got new words. We started with a word sort to notice the pattern. Then, we go on a word hunt during readers workshop to add new words to our sort!

At morning meeting we played down by the banks.

 

In social studies we are talking about the representatives and senators

and we are making bills to try and make it into a law.

 
 

Some kids are sharing their bills and then we voted to find a class idea to present on our field trip to the State House.

We watched a video and talked about our representatives and senators. We discussed how the legislative branch works.

This is Mrs. Randall leading a shared writing lesson on how writers use boxes and bullets. Together we organized our thesis statement and evidence to back it up from our class idea.

 

We went to the Golden Dome/ State House. We traveled to our states capital, Montpelier!

We also went to the VT State museum.

At the museum we learned about the abanaki tribe/ native Americans.

And we also learned about the Revolutionary War and some tools and weapons back then.

These are some artifacts that were at the museum.
