Week of May 27

Tuesday at math today Megan showed her strategy for solving a multiplication story problem. We are working on being efficient mathematicians.

These are some of the other people's strategies.

This is Taylor working on her iMovie. She is choosing to create an iMovie as her digital presentation for our wax museum on June 10th!

In reading our class worked On arguments for our wax museum figures. This is Mia and Sadie working on their argument paper.

In library we are watching the Tale Of Despereaux.

This is Mrs. Randall reading the book Tuesday to us. She showed us a cool video of the book and we did a creative writing job. The book had no words! Just a day and time.

We voted on the mock legislator bill today. We made some changes and then sent it back to the "House".

We also voted on our schoolastic debate. Should schools have school uniforms?

Wednesday in math we practiced estimating.

In math today we did problems with our classmates.

We watched Liberty's kids today.

Thursday we had our last day of art today this is Megan holding her sketch pad .

This is Jackson showing his strategy for our problem of the day.

In math today J.P. and Taylor solved and showed their work on a story problem.

 

Also in math we made story problems to show to our NewJersey Skype pals.

Today we had lunch early today and watched some videos about shark taggers. These fisherman and scientists work together to learn more about sharks. We are learning more about how scientists ask strong questions and gather data.

We also Skyped with a shark tagger. She is a marine biologist who is stationed in Massachusets. She has traveled on the Boat to tag and study great white sharks!

 

Friday We put story problems on Edmodo so our NewJersey Skype pals can solve them. We can't wait to hear back from them!

We had Spanish today. We are learning gender.

Mrs Randall is reading us the book The secret order of the gum street girls. We love it!

We watched Liberty's Kids again today. The focus today is George Washinton and his role in the American Recolution and the battle of bunker hill.

Week of may 20th

 

The chicks are hatching!!!!!!!

I really do hope the chicks will be ok. :)

We are having morning meeting and we are naming the first born chick. We decided that Abe would name the first chick.

Abe named it Martin.

After a little while another chick came out Megan named this one Fuzz ball.

 

We Now we have two chicks!

Later in reading we went with our book groups to talk about how to present our text.

When we were done we went into the computer lab to work on our strong lead for our argument paper. So far a lot of people are still researching but will soon move on to work on their argument paper.

Next a new chick got born this one is named Chestnut! J.P named the Chick.

There is Chestnut in the incubator. Isn't Chestnut cute!

Next People shared their catchy leads and main question to the class. Can't wait to hear the rest!

Then at read aloud Sam read for our guest reader

Later when we checked on the chicks Megan and Abe told us how close to another chick hatching.

Today Sadie finished Fast Math. yay her.

 

After the celebration (Mrs. Randall danced on her desk) we worked on our intro paragraph and researching.

Then we talked about expectations for the wax museum.

Then Sierra hatched Taylor named that chick!

There she is!

 

Tuesday!

Today ten more chicks hatched over night and in the early morning here are the ones we named so far. We have been watching them on our live chick cam.

This is Lilac Sadie named her. Lilac got born on Monday late at night!

Then Sam D named a chick Jeffrey. Jeffrey got born on Tuesday.

Then Gabe named a chick Stanley.

 

Mia named a chick Rainbow.

Kieley named a chick Twinkie.

Jackson named a chick Jackson. This is his chick. Jackson the chick just got born so that is why he doesn't have much hair!

This is mr.fuzzyboots (Jordan named the chick ) the chick is in a bruter by him self because he is having a hard time fitting in.

In math we worked on p.gs 11 - 13. When we were done we played kakooma for fun. Kakooma is where you add two numbers to get one number for the total.

Throughout math other classes came into see the chicks. One class even got to see a chick hatch!

At snack some more people named chicks.

Aspen named hers Pepper.

Chad named his Chicky.

Sam G named his Alex.

After people prepared for there book group presentation.

First up was Captive of Pitsfore Ridge book group.

Then the Ann Story book group shared. They presented their book on a Imovie! Then they explained why they did an iMovie.

Then the Green Mountain Hero book group shared their book about Ann Story and her sons who worked together to make a difference.

After the presentations Malina named a chick Meghan. Lucas also named a chick Cookie Monster

Then a new Chick got born Maliek named the chick Covertion

At reading we read our independent books still we had to go to library. This is some of the independent books we are reading.

At library We found out that this is the last week to get books. That means that SUMMER VACATION is almost here!

Today in social studies we watched a shark video! We will be Skyping a cool scientist next Thursday who collects data on sharks! And we also watched liberty kids!

Wednesday!

Today in math we took a pre assesment. I hope we all did well! Mrs. Randall met with kids who needed extra support after.

When people were done the test we finished our p.o.d if we hadn't already. Some people worked by the chicks while working they are getting bigger.

After math we listened to the last book group that read If you lived at the time of the Revolution. They talked about a medal and what clothes you where then and then what you wear now.

Today in guidence we presented our items. The groups were Mia, Sadie, Taylor and Kieley. Another group was Sam D, JP, Skyler and Abe. Malina's group had Jordan B , Megan and Bella. Those are just some groups there are many more though.
After guidence we Skyped our friends from New Jersey. We talked about what they had research and they gave us feed back about our Vermont glogs.

We now are in our discussion about a bill that the other class made the bill is: An act to prohibiting the handheld use of a portable electronic devices while driving. Here are some pictures of our mock legislative debate. We are the senate and Mr. b's class is the house.

Later we watched Liberty's kids. We watched an episode about slaves and how slavery isn't fair.

 

Thursday!

Today In math we talked about estimating. Then we practiced on p.g 17 When we were done we did math menu.

Today we learned that the brown chicks are girls and the yellow ones are boys. So if you are thinking about adopting chick, that might come in handy.

Later we went into the computer lab to work on our argument paper and other things to get ready for the wax museum. Some people are on their argument paper others are on their digital presentation.

After we went into our second day for our mock legislative. Today we talked about how the prices should be higher if a person or animal gets hurt while someone is texting, or calling sombody ect. In a car and crashes.

At read aloud we stared reading a new book the book is called: The Secret Order of the Gumm street Girls

by Elise Primarea. The genre is science fiction.

Have you read this book? So far this book is very good.

Today we had indoor recess because it was raining out. The other class came into see the chicks. We also checked on the chicks left in the incubator. After we candled them we found out that they were dead we cracked them open.

Today we had elf. We learned about dandiolions and then got surger cookies that looked like dandiolions. These are our ELF volunteers! It was our last class!

On Friday we did not have school, due to flooding!
