Week of 1-8-13

Tuesday

Without school on Monday, we started this week on Tuesday. We had an early break because of CALM.

Next we had CALM(connecting art library music) and we split into 3 groups to go to music, art, library. In music we learned about the National Anthem and also how to sing it.

In library we watched a video.

In art we looked at portraits, but some are illegal to put on the blog because the artist might still be alive.

We had a short readers-writers workshop because of CALM.

We then had library,read aloud, recess, lunch, and finally social studies. We did a mystery Skype questions work sheet then worked in our Under The Golden Dome booklet.



Wednesday
We gave a surprise to mrs. Randall. Cards for her birthday.

We worked on our p.o.d. using an efficient and accurate strategy. Many of us are finishing quickly and are support crew for others.

We used geo boards to help us find the area of different polygons.

In music we started recorders.
We worked on predicting to help us understand the text better.
We worked in Under The Golden Dome. In it we are learning about the state house. We also learned about the girl on top the dome.

Thursday

We leaned of a new program called glogsteredu.com. We will be creating glogs to inform others about our state.

Then we did a Skype to New Jersey. They asked us questions and we asked them questions so we could locate each other's state. We asked them about the effects of the flooding and they said that there was a lot of flooding, but no ones home was destroyed in their class. They were out of school for 9 days.

Sam D and Bella were answering questions and Abe was asking the questions.

 

We had Elf after lunch. We learned about birds. Specifically migration.

Friday

We did our p.o.d. Many us thought it was easy. We used the strategy, use or look for a pattern.

In the Weekly Reader, we read some interesting articles. We discussed making claims and evidence with one of the articles and completed a sheet called, What's the evidence?.

We had an interesting time with our K-buddies. We did two dances and read a books to them. Then our class treeted them to delicious hot chocolate.

January 14 2013

Today in math we talked about ninety degree angles and other angles. We measured our angles with power polygons.

Today for share Malina shared her yellow stripe from Taekwon-do.

 

 

At gym today we did our circus unit and some girls did a pyramid and these are them.

At share this morning Jordan P. shared her Beanie boos.

 

This afternoon nurse Amy tot us about Heath and what is good for your body we also did a quiz.

 

This is the photo of the lungs the one on the left is the smokers lung and the other lungs is the none smoker lungs they are real lungs.

Today we chatted about right angles and we played some fun games.

Also we made posters that showed you about angles.

 

 

 

Mrs.Randall is reading the book Knuckle Head it is very funny we loved it.

At reading workshop today we had a reading group like every other day.

At guidance today mr.lane was teching us about getting red thoughts green thoughts and yellow thoughts.


At lunch on Friday we had lunch in our room

Yesterday we got a new weekly reader it is called Are You Smarter Then a Chimpanzee ?

Week of 1-7-2013

Monday

We got to chose what we want on the math menu. This is what we came up with:

Muggins is a fun math game we added. In this game we are putting together different equations.

 

Multifactor is another math game that helps us with multiples.

 

This group is playing Counting the Tape to work on multiplication and supporting your thinking with evidence.

 

This group is playing a Quizmo game focusing on geometry! This is our current unit of study.

Mr. Bouchard and Mrs.Rinheart came in today for math.

At snack Megan, Lucas and Sam D went to read to their K-buddy's.this is the book Sam D read to Gunnther.

Today Mrs. Randall read yesterday I had the blues.

We did a writing piece about how we felt Monday morning and what color matched your mood.

There were many different colors with different moods.

 

We watched a video in social studies about how our state and local government works and got a booklet called Under the Golden Dome.

Tuesday

In math we discussed if a square is a rectangle or if rectangle is a square.

We continued to work on page 30-32.

 

After that we played quizmo.

It was fun and we had many "QUIZMO"s

Our class took a test about what a quadrilateral is.

A scientist came to JES and we got to listen to what she does. She works with emotions. She tests things on kids. Her name is Jamie.

This is Jack a baby people tested on.

We tested how many Beats per minute our heart beat.

Wednesday

Mr. Lane came in today for guidance .

We did a free write today. Mrs. Randall taught a lesson on how writers use voice. She read the book The Frog Principal. It was funny! After, we wrote with our voice to continue the story.

 

We explored our Under the Golden Dome books for our VT studies!

Mrs. Randall gave a challenging POD on Thursday! It took us a long time to work. We all showed preservance because we didn't give up! We used the strategy guess, check, think and revise.

This is us working hard!

We went to the computer lab and a new site called kidsperasion 3. it was a fun. :)

We had a guest teacher she used to work in middle school. Her name is zieiemski.

 

The whole class played geometry quizmo.

 

Mrs. Randall came in a little before 11:00 for reader's/writer's workshop. She read an informational text called Surprising Sharks. It was so good! We noticed that she had strong voice that was engaging and gave us new information about sharks. After, we brainstormed what we were passionate about and/or knew a lot about and practiced using voice and Nicola Davie's authors craft to write a non-fiction piece.

 

We got a new weekly reader this week it's tell you to stand up for people that are getting bullied.
