Week of January 29

Today in math menu today many of us started a new problem solver called Trees. We are working on finding perimeter in this problem.

We finished our read aloud book Shadow by Michael Morpurgo. We voted on our next read aloud text today!

Today we shared strategies on finding the area of different polygons. After, we practiced finding both the area and perimeter.

Writers practiced using different elements and techniques. We noticed while reading Kevin O'Malley's book Straight to the Pole. We are looking deeper into sparking our voice as writers.

This is the chart we created! Mrs. Randall gave us a book jacket prompt that we used for our 7 minute write. It was called Lost in the Woods.

Mrs.Randall is showing the class new books and we chose Storm Runners for our read aloud book.

Today we finished a sheet about solids, liquids and gas.

We brainstormed for wondering Wednesdays.

We worked on the perimeter and area of shapes.

We found it easier to find the area and perimeter of squares because all of the sides are the same length.

We read the book straight to the pole by Kevin o' Malley. We noticed how he used voice in his writing.

We had a Skype to guess the county and school for our " Where in Vt. are you ?"

Today we figured out if some of these angles were a obtuse angle right angle or straight angle acute angle.

During math on Thursday we had a end of unit assessment, on Friday Mrs. Randall hinted that our next unit involves subtraction.

Mrs. Randall is reading Storm Runners on Friday when we realized each chapter is a different time of day.

Malina's artsy dad drew a puzzle piece that she said go's to a really big puzzle the size of our classroom...

On Friday we did a science experiment were we crumple up a piece of paper and put it in a cup of water or water mixed w the substances above.

We noticed that the dish soap was heavier so when we put the paper in it opened up (from the crumpled form) and sank. We figured that the soap lowers the surface tension of the water!

Have a good weekend!

Week of 1-8-13

Tuesday

Without school on Monday, we started this week on Tuesday. We had an early break because of CALM.

Next we had CALM(connecting art library music) and we split into 3 groups to go to music, art, library. In music we learned about the National Anthem and also how to sing it.

In library we watched a video.

Kellie Clarkson
President Obama

In art we looked at portraits, but some are illegal to put on the blog because the artist might still be alive.

We had a short readers-writers workshop because of CALM.

We then had library, read aloud, recess, lunch, and finally social studies. We did a mystery Skype questions work sheet then worked in our Under The Golden Dome booklet.

Wednesday
We gave a surprise to mrs. Randall. Cards for her birthday.

We worked on our p.o.d. using an efficient and accurate strategy. Many of us are finishing quickly and are support crew for others.

We used geo boards to help us find the area of different polygons.

In music we started recorders.
We worked on predicting to help us understand the text better.
We worked in Under The Golden Dome. In it we are learning about the state house. We also learned about the girl on top the dome.

Thursday

We leaned of a new program called glogsteredu.com. We will be creating glogs to inform others about our state.

Then we did a Skype to New Jersey. They asked us questions and we asked them questions so we could locate each other's state. We asked them about the effects of the flooding and they said that there was a lot of flooding, but no ones home was destroyed in their class. They were out of school for 9 days.

Sam D and Bella were answering questions and Abe was asking the questions.

We had Elf after lunch. We learned about birds. Specifically migration.

Friday

We did our p.o.d. Many us thought it was easy. We used the strategy, use or look for a pattern.

In the Weekly Reader, we read some interesting articles. We discussed making claims and evidence with one of the articles and completed a sheet called, What's the evidence?.

We had an interesting time with our K-buddies. We did two dances and read a books to them. Then our class treeted them to delicious hot chocolate.
