Week of September 1, 2015

This week has been a blast! We are continuing to learn more about each other, work as a team, and review expectations. Check out some of this week's fun!

We increase our time reading independently.

We make covers for our notebooks with pictures for inspiration.

We organize our binders with tabs

We read this book and talked about how to read slowly and carefully to fully digest a book!

We signed our contracts and got our Chrome Book!

We emailed our first day picture to ourselves, uploaded it to Google Drawing and played around with graphics. It was a lot of fun!

We each created a spreadsheet to house all of our passwords.

In math, we are working on creating arrays to use as models for multiplication. Teams found factors of a number using a factor rainbow and then made arrays.

Second Step- we practice how we can show each other that we care.

We learned how to BuZZ effectively. We talk about text with our reading partner.

We met our K-Buddies! We read them stories and got to know them!

We fill out our planner each night.

We took a team challenge using Bedtime Math! We learned about a cool robot and how to attack a math problem.

We watched a video of how this robot worked.

We played a game called Factor Pairs and wrote combinations we know and some that we don't know yet.

Khan Academy- we joined and Mrs. Randall gave us a cool mission!

We helped Nurse Amy in the garden!

Look at this radish! Great team work pulling it!

Have a great long weekend!

First week of school!

Getting to know each other! We completed a scavenger hunt to help us learn about our classmates.

We created our hopes and dreams for this school year. We wrote our personal and academic goals, plan to achieve our goals, and support people. We posted them in the hallway.

We created a time capsule! We wrote letters to ourselves to open again on the last day of school!
Our letters are addressed to us and sealed.
This is our MML (morning meeting leader).

We chose family names and created a poster for our desk group.

We created a mini- me for our Team Players board. Some of us are on vacation.

Scavenger hunt using some of our classroom resources.

Motor breaks! Our Jam Master chooses motor breaks throughout the day.

Exploring math games! We chose math games to play. We learned how to play the games so we can teach others how to play next week.

Have a great weekend!

Summer Fun!

How have you spent your summer?  Have you challenged yourself?  Pushed your personal boundaries?  Taken time to pause and reflect?
One adventure I embarked on is spending a week in NYC at Columbia University!  A week-long writing institute with some of the best eduactors from all over the world!  I've met, and learned from professional writers like Sarah Weeks. Of course, I had to take in a
Yankees game too!
Here is my writing space in my dorm room.
This is the view from my room.
Watching #40 warm up!  It was his first night on the team!  Pitching for the NY Yankees at the age of 21!  His fast ball was amazing!!!
This is Sarah Weeks and I!  I learned so much from her!
I can't wait to hear your summer stories!
Love, Mrs. Randall
