Wednesday
On Wednesday we talked about notation. Our focus for math was "how can we use clear and concise notation for recording addition strategies"? We solved addition problems and swapped papers with an elbow buddy then we talked about the strategies.
Our desks are in "families" which means that they are in small groups. We created family names and posters.
The names of the families are: The Thriving monkeys of the wilderness, The no name baboon, the Pugs, The Bengal Tigers.
In Readers-Writes we focused on our weekly reader or our idea for our reps.
In science each family researched a focus question from our properties of matter unit.
In this project we learned to work together and how to back up an answer.
Thursday
We had a another P.O.D in which we had to make a table to find the running total, some kids got stuck on that. Then we went to art and came back to math menu.
Then we elaborated on the U.S. algorithm discussion.
Then we played close to 1,000 and talked about the strategies we used.
We went to the lab and worked on ICivics. We each have accounts so we get to practice creating a strong argument. this helped us practice for our own persuasive letters. We also reviewed a document in our Drive that details the criteria for our social studies glogs.
We had read aloud, recess and lunch. Then in science we continued to work on our question that we had to answer. We then wrote a paragraph, using the ABC format) on one of the questions. We continued the paragraphs Friday. Teams presented using the app Notability and YouTube videos.
Friday
We had a challenging P.O.D. We all learned to persevere, use positive self talk and start with what we know. After, we realized that we could solve the problem easily!
In honor of Jackson, Mrs. Randall danced on his desk. He finished Fastt Math!
We had an exciting read aloud...stopping in the middle of a part and now we have to read the second book to find out. We now recommend the second book in the series called The Surge! We had lunch after recess. In science, we shared our paragraph that answered our question. Everyone did a great job!
Have a nice weekend!
Yours truly,
Jordan b and Megan.
