We got our literature circles on Monday! We met and planned our reading so that we could present our new knowledge next Tuesday.

During math we needed to solve this problem: How many hundreds are in ten thousands?
Time for science, today we learned about States of Matter.
On Tuesday we had a "paws" celebration called: Stop drop and read! It was great! We all read a choice book.
We worked on our active reading skills and supporting our thinking with evidence in a piece called "Survival Skills". It is from the Vermont Item Bank.
On Wednesday we continued to discuss our literature circle books.
On Thursday we conferenced about what we did in literature circles.
A group made a jeopardy game about their book.
During math we had to write a letter to a third grader about how many 10s are in 10,000. We will deliver them next week.
In Science we watched a video about making snow. We are organizing our testable questions.
During Guidance we had to work with a partner put one arm behind our backs and fold a piece of paper a bunch of times it was really hard! We are working on positive self talk and not blame others.

On Monday we got new vocabulary words. During readers workshop, we complete word work jobs to practice noticing the pattern.
Our focus on Monday in math was understanding how starter problems can help us solve equations efficiently.
They help us find the answer to large equations.
On Tuesday we reviewed our class norms. Together we did some role play on work expectations and how adults and students show respect to others.
We talked about conferencing in writing block on Tuesday. After, we did buddy conferences and revised our informational books.
In math on Tuesday we worked on partial sums. Also we had to explain what the U.S. Algorithm is.
We are taking on a challenge to figure out how everybody in the world can have clean water. We watched a video on an engineer who took on that challenge and helped a lot of people.
Troy is challenging himself to figure out this problem. He says," This has a lot of variables such as tempature, amount of water, the amount of bacteria/salt, something that is happening all over the world."
Ryan is also taking on this challenge. He says," We were thinking about all the ways to clean the water that people have to live with, without it costing to much and having it not use electricity."
On Wednesday we had Digital Learning Day. There are 7 wonders. Chichen Itza, Christ the Redeemer, The Roman Coliseum, The Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu, Petra, And The Taj Mahal. We went to each place! It was so cool!

On Thursday we played hopscotch with our Vermont riddles that we made earlier in the week.
We had a mid-unit assessment in math on Thursday. It asked us to sove an addition equation using two different strategies.
We were celebrating katelyn's half birthday on Friday. She brought in some cookies to eat. Thank you Katelyn!
Today is Nick's last day. He shared about his new house. He brought in cookies for us to eat as well. We will miss you Nick!
On Friday we read our scholastic news and did a paper on it as well. We read two different articles and compared them.
We watched a video on a number talk that another 4th grade class had solved. Before we watched the video we had our own number talk. We had to solve the same equation as the people in the video. We had the same answers!
