Week of February 13

 Monday

In P.E we did Latin dancing and went in groups to do a little dancing skit.

In Math we did fraction and decimal practice.

In reader's workshop, we practiced taking helpful notes and sharing our thinking.

In writing workshop we read the book The Web File by Margie Palatini And we noticed sentence fluency.  After we wrote our own short stories using the same author's craft.  Short and long sentences.

In Read Aloud we were reading Dark Life by Kat Falls and I really recommend the book!

In Social Study's we talked about the Vermont laws and talked about Pros and Cons.

Tuesday In Music we learned a new song for recorders and it was so fun!

In math we went on edmodo (A website) because Mrs. Randall put on links so we can play games on two websites!

What are readers and writers doing during literacy?  Check out the pictures!

We talked about a law (should Vermont ban smoking in vehicles when a child is present) and pretended that two people were our local representatives and two groups to convince the two representatives about there opinion.

In social study's we Skyped a 6th grade class in Glover, Vermont.

Wendsday

At 9:15 we went to music in the computer lab because we were doing music composition!

In writers workshop we had a literacy assessment on a story about a survival lesson in the desert

We learned how to organized our introduction for our persuasive letters.  We are writing to our local representatives.

 Wendsday

In art we did silhouettes in our mini book

In math Mrs. Hyder came to play games in different groups.

Also in math Mrs. Randall took a small group and same as Ms. Minor. Also we discussed if .90 is equal to 90.0 and we found out that it is not equal.

At the end of math we played a game called math jeopardy .

During reader's workshop, Mrs. Randall showed a group how to up load audio books onto our iPods.

We read and discussed a fun booklet called Under the Golden Dome so we could learn more about our state house.

On Friday we traveled to Montpelier and visited the State House and the Vermont Historical Society Museum.

We were recognized while observing the House.

Bella would like to research Clarina Nichols.  She learned about her while at the museum.

Did you know that the House of Representatives has 150members?  It is a large red room.  The Senate, with 30 senators, is a smaller green room.

We met Mr. Till and Mr. Frank at the state house.  We were able to sit in the Governor's office and ask  questions and discuss current bills.

I learned that bills have two years to become a law.  Out of 1000 bills, 100 of them become laws.- from Bella

At the museum, we saw real civil war artifacts, a train telegraph machine, we could listen to famous speeches on telephones, we saw how Vermonters lived many years ago.  We sat in an Abanaki wigwam.  We also watched a video about how laws have changed our state, like woem's rights and abolishing slavery.

It was a fun trip!
