Week of October 6, 2014

Mrs. Randall introduces our new books to start the new week! We love that she is always buying new books for our class library!

Our goal of the week is line up quickly, plan for our body, one speaker at a time, and calm body. How do you think we can improve?

The class stretches their body to start the new week. Our jam master leads our motor breaks. The warrior...

In second step we talked about how to make a conversation with someone, giving compliments, and understanding their feelings. Compliments are very useful when starting a conversation. We learned that when trying to make a friend you have to compliment them, use positive talk, and taking in their feelings. This is Derek trying to make friends with Carlos. Does it look like it worked well or if it didn't end so well.

This is a picture of Owen and porter. This is a firm Hand Shake. This is respectful and nice.

Tuesday: Carboard Challenge

We had a lot of fun creations! There was a hockey ring, card game, house, throw and win game, and a rolling ball game. We had so much Carboard we hade to give some back to Mr.Bouchard.

Amos was the student of the week. He brought his me bag in to share more about himself.

He brought his drawing book,2 glass chickens,a baseball,a marble, one eraser,2 shells, playing cards, an antler, and last a ribbon from pano lesson.

Thursday October 9

Mystery Skype. We are holding many mystery Skypes so we can get to know other kids around the world who are reading the same book. Have you clicked on the book cover on the right side of our blog? This will take you to a map of some of the classes who are part of the global read aloud project. We met this class! They are in Minnesota, and we are discussing our state. After, we discussed our book on Edmodo with them. We created our own book club group with many other classes all over the world!

Friday October 10

Mystery Skype they live in the lower east side of NYC. They have a school almost the same size as ours. lunch is the same, their playground is small. They only have a cement instead of grass or wood chips. Their homework is a bit more and they speak Spanish in Spanish class and English as an every day language. Very amazing! Very complicated schedule for them, and they start school later than us, and end later. They take the subway or walk to school.

Understanding place value
Staying focused on our jobs
Trying out different ways to show, not tell. Our story arcs help us focus in each scene.
We write, talk, and write again! This helps us plan our stories.

This is an information card so our audience better understands our cardboard creation.

We shared a picture of Vermont foliage during our skype with friends from Minnesota.

Mrs. Randall went shopping again....this book just came out Wednesday! Porter is reading it first.

We are working on our VT maps and understanding more about the Green Mountains.

We are working on sharing our thinking and discussing our math thinking.

We are finding evidence to back up our thinking. This is one way to help us organize our thinking.

Our comprehension strategy focus is monitoring our understanding. What do you do when you get stuck?

We got reading buddies! We practiced discussing our text with a clear focus/purpose for talking.

We teach each other in math.

This week we are proud of enjoying learning together, improving our transitions and working together!

Don't forget to be ready to hike on Monday!!

Porter and Mia
