Week of January 23, 2017

Chol came in and talked to us about his immigration story from when he was a kid. We learned about what it's like to be a refugee. He can speak 4 languages and taught us how to say hello in each language! He created a website to help support other Sudanese refugees in Vermont. We are helping his foundation by collecting money and old sports equipment to donate.

We had another chess day.
We got new scholastic news and debated some of the articles.
Jason shared his current independent text called Save me A Seat.
Instead of Wondering Wednesday, we had Thinking Thursday his week!
In readers workshop, we are learning through the lens of a critical reader. We are noticing social issues hiding in the text. We are reading Kizzy Ann Stamps.
We started a fractions and decimal unit in math! It's a lot of fun!
Multicultural children's book day! We read and discussed many books that teach us more about other cultures and build empathy for others.
