Reader' Workshop:
Today in reader's workshop our focus was to infer the meaning of words. We read an a non-fiction poem on the moon. We asked many questions, used our background knowledge, and buzzed with our reading buddy to better understand the text.
Aidan and Cooper are reading about the moon. They talked about how the first people landed on the moon. They also talked about their books.
Math Workshop:
In math we talked about angles and played with protractors and power polygons. This is one lesson we did to measure angles.
We also hade a cool brain warm up where we use power polygons to find our answer.
In second step we did a review on all the skills we have learned! We are also getting our family to participate in using these skills at home!
How are you doing practicing these skills in your daily life?
In social studies we try our best to ignore distractions while we work as a family in our Under The Golden Done Booklet. Mrs.Randall set up a game and she called the people who were focused. The game is called On The Road to Congress.
Read Aloud: our new book is inspiring us to complete random acts of kindness! What have you done lately and expected nothing in return?
Good job drawing this art work Amos.
Mrs.Randall is reading a cool book called the boy who loved math. The main character is Paul. Did I tell you about him loving math? Oh right that is the cover of the book.
The people who finished under the golden dome worked in a small group on understanding how a bill is created and what happens to make it a law. We worked in a booklet called The adventures of bill.
In math We hade a team change it was stressful, but fun. One of them was measuring the whole class room! We measured the dimensions and then multiplied them to find the area.
We have two more multiplication masters!! Keep practicing! Great effort everyone!
We have some new vocab enrichers and discussion directors for read aloud! Aidan and Greta.
We read these books they are all about civics and government.
We worked on Geoboards we mached the shape and found the area.
We read an awesome book! It is my favorite book that she has read this year. I think the ground hog is a one sided Sid. We are reading many different books that are written with a strong opinion.
We all know that Mrs.Randall is the person with the big red book. Miss Books convinces her students that they should keep reading until they find the right book for them.
Conferenced with a buddy to share our introduction paragraphs and our plan for evidence.
These are some of our book recommendations!
We took time out of our math block to revisit our habit of mind, seeking accuracy and precision. We each reflected on our previous word splash and chose one to focus on. We shared how important this habit of mind is in life, at any age! How does this habit of mind come up in your daily life? Please comment on our blog!
We played some fun games to learn more about our science unit, properties of matter!
Happy Valentines Day!
Your friendly carnivores,
Mia and Owen
