Back to school- short week

Back to school and off at a busy start!
We did our pod and it was about a cat that got scared and climbed up and down a tree. We had to find out how many branches the cat climbed.

In math we worked on fractions and we did a 6x4 grid and a 10x10 grid.

In science, we did a fun Nearpod lesson to learn more about the properties of matter-solid, liquid, and gas.

Mrs.Randall showed the class a new game that's fun and helps us with fractions the game/lesson is on the Nearpod app

Mrs. Randall bought a new book! We have been asking her to get the next book in the I Survived series, and she did! These are all true stories. Did you know the author, Lauren Tarshis, writes an I Survived article in each edition of the Storyworks magazine? Check it out (we get this magazine in our classroom)!

This short week we have focused on our independent reading. Each of us have worked on goal setting throughout the year. This week we set a specific goal for the three days and Mrs. Randall held reading conferences and observed our reading behavior.

Key ingredients to reading down deep into a book; a comfortable spot, a just-right text, post-it's, a pencil, and time. We have built our reading stamina up to 40 minutes of independent reading!!

Choosing a next book is fun when there are so many good books to choose from!

Miranda recommends the Time Flier series! She is planning a book talk!

We are using visual models to show fractional parts. We are making fraction cards to play games with next week.

Science teams met and discussed a testable question they would like to use in a science investigation next week.

Have a good weekend! Good luck to Owen on your ski race!
